2020 4-H Face to Face Summer Programs Canceled
Message from State 4-H Leader Dr. Mike Yoder:
Late Friday afternoon, we received final guidance from NC State University regarding summer 4-H programs. While the message specifically mentions camps, it refers to all K-12 face-to-face events and activities conducted by NC State University employees and representatives. This impacts residential camps held at our three 4-H camps/centers, events held on the NC State campus, and all face-to-face programs conducted in the counties until NC State Extension lifts restrictions on Extension programming.
As a result, we will cancel the face-to-face versions of 4-H camps, 4-H Congress, Citizenship Focus and all other K-12 events and activities that are scheduled for summer 2020
Dr. Shannon McCollum is heading up an effort to provide a virtual option for County and District Activity Days, as well as the State 4-H Presentation Finals. Dr. Sarah Kotzian is working to develop virtual options for NC 4-H Congress and North Carolina Citizenship Focus, and David Herpy and Angela Brisson are working with our camp leadership team to provide virtual opportunities at our camps.
We are all disappointed that we must take these actions but this is the responsible thing to do. Our greatest concern is for your safety and that of our audiences. Please take all appropriate measures to protect yourself and them from COVID-19 and encourage our youth, many of whom live with or frequently interact with elderly relatives and neighbors, to do the same.
Please keep up with NC State COVID-19 related updates and information.
Davidson County will continue to work on virtual programming to keep youth connected and active! Be on the lookout for announcements soon!
