Vegetable Gardening Series for Beginners-Registration Open

Have you always wanted to experiment with growing your own food at home? If so, now is a good time to start. This series will cover the basics of starting your own garden at home from seed to harvest and everything in-between.

This workshop has 4 sessions and each session introduces a different topic. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions without previous experience. Registration is required for each session (individually).

Session 1 – Site Selection

July 9, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. (Online Session)

This session will garden design ideas, the importance of soil, garden preparation with a short question, and answer following the session.

Session 2: Planting Basics

July 16, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. (Online Session)

This session will cover what, when, and how to plant your garden from transplanting or starting from seed. Also covered will be the importance of variety selection in NC.

Session 3 – Garden Maintenance

July 23, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. (In-Person Session, capacity is limited)

This session will detail common home vegetable crops issues, how to maintain a long harvest season, and how to keep your garden healthy.

This session will be held at a local community garden where techniques can be demonstrated in person. First Reformed United Church of Christ on 104 East Center Street, Lexington, NC, 27292.

Session 4 – Harvest and Storage
July 30, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. (Online Session)

This session will detail proper ways to harvest common vegetable crops and why it is important as well as proper storage requirements for long-lasting vegetables.
