As you are aware, a lot of folks across the United States continue to receive China-sourced seed packets without having ordered anything. There has been a great deal of concern that these seeds were some type of invasive species. While they do not seem to be so far, anyone receiving the seeds has been asked to notify and turn the seeds over to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services who, in turn, passes them along to the United States Department of Agriculture for identification and disposal.
North Carolina Cooperative Extension offices will now serve as drop-off sites for citizens who receive seeds in the future. The person who receives the seeds in the mail is asked to notify NCDA&CS, fill out an online or printable form, put the seeds and the form into a zip-lock bag, and then drop the contents off at the Extension Center. An NCDA&CS representative will then pick up the seeds.
