The Davidson County Beekeepers Association will be hosting a Basic Beekeeping Class as well as a Beekeeping Certification Class.

The Basic Beekeeping Class will be Saturday, January 6th from 9 a.m. – Noon, and will cover The Bee World, Getting Started, Hive Components, Starting a Hive, First Year Management Steps, and Next Steps. The course is free.

The Beekeeper Certification Course will run from Jan 13 – Mar 30th, every Saturday from 9 a.m. – Noon. The Certification Course Goes in depth to cover all of the information a beginning beekeeper needs, and includes participation in a mentoring program. The cost is $60.

Topics covered include Intro to Beekeeping and History, Getting started and Hive Components, Installing Bees, managing bees (Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter), Honeybee Organization, Bee Races & Products, Bee Anatomy, Bee Diseases and Maladies, Integrated Pest Management, Protective Equipment, Apiary Safety and Good Neighbor Practices, Feeding Bees, Extraction and Labeling, Plants for Bees, and Additional Resources.
